TRAFFIC

Traffic and congestion relief should be the number one priority for the city of Kenmore. We need to provide permanent solutions to the traffic problems we are facing, and we need to start working on them now. We need a city council that will take action!

Traffic congestion in Kenmore deals a crippling blow to the economic and social development of our city. Traffic not only significantly hinders the ability of businesses to get goods in and out of the city, but also impedes everyone’s ability to get to work, church, or the grocery store in a timely manner. This problem serves as a detriment to our lifestyle, livelihood, and safety. Now is not the time for more political rhetoric, now is the time for action.

Solving the traffic problem:

  1. We need to make traffic our first priority. We should always be exploring smarter and more efficient infrastructure alternatives. We need to make it easier for our citizens to get to work and to get out into the community, and reduce the time we spend stopped in traffic.
  2. We need to seek out more state and federal grants to improve our roadway. Highway 522 is a major thoroughfare that links Kenmore to Seattle and many other surrounding communities. Kenmore cannot be expected to pay all the costs associated with solving the traffic problem. The task of improving traffic flow is a major undertaking, and needs to be coordinated with the other cities that share this highway. We need leaders to lobby other jurisdictions so they can pay their fair share. Let’s look at the larger picture and get permanent solutions to our problems.
  3. We need to take action to implement the current Downtown Circulation Concept. The plan will allow local residents access to our downtown without getting caught up in 522 traffic.
  4. We need to look at alternate routes to 522 and other busy roads. It would be more beneficial for all of us if there were more viable options for transportation. We should not have to wait 25 minutes to travel through Kenmore. We need to make our city a destination, instead of merely a thoroughfare.
  5. We need to make it more convenient to use mass transit. As Kenmore develops, we will have a pedestrian friendly downtown area that will benefit from a mass transit station. We need to incorporate the current and future transit plans in our region so our citizens can easily travel around town and to nearby cities with ease and efficiency.

Now is the time for a candidate that will take action to complete our current traffic projects, and take a leadership role in the future of transportation in Kenmore. Now is the time for city council members who have working relationships with local, regional, state, and federal officials who can provide the resources that will produce positive change for Kenmore. Now is the time for a candidate who has experience in traffic planning and who has served on development taskforces. I am that candidate.
